BIRTHDAYS:
A Birthday Ring Ceremony is
held on the child’s birthday or on the nearest convenient day, when the
children all celebrate the life of the Birthday child t
ogether. Parents are
requested to bring cupcakes or a cake for the class to share when celebrating the birthday of their child and the parents are invited to
attend this celebration.
The Montessori Birthday Ring
is quite unique in that the birthday child is encouraged to carry our globe,
starting at the season his/her birthday falls into, (Summer, Autumn, Winter
or Spring) and he/she walks around the carpet with the globe, passing all
the seasons, (pictures placed on the mat) and around a symbol of the sun in
the centre, returning to his/her original starting point and season. As the
child is doing this, together the class repeats “the earth takes 365 days to
go around the sun, which is one full calendar year and …..(name) has now
turned….. years today”. Cuties Corner then presents the child with a small
gift in celebration of his/her birthday and the traditional “Happy Birthday”
song is sung.
CODE OF CONDUCT AND
DISCIPLINE:
Cuties Corner follows Christian values and ethics and
therefore prides itself in keeping a high standard of conduct and good
manners, showing helpfulness, caring, respect and compassion through love,
for one another. Therefore, in the case of any of the following behaviour
being apparent, we will discipline your child/children as detailed below and
request your full support from home in assisting us to rectify any of these
problems that we may experience at any stage:
- No swearing, biting, kicking,
pinching, spitting, smacking or hitting is allowed;
- No deliberate, destructive
behaviour or deliberate misuse of any equipment or materials is allowed;
- No inappropriate behaviour or
language, (like bullying), whether verbal, social or physical, is
allowed.
DISCIPLINE usually takes the form of
removing/separating the child from the area where he/she has misbehaved to a
“thinking chair/mat” for a few minutes in order for them to think about what
he/she did that was unacceptable. Thereafter they are asked what they did
and why it was wrong, and once they understand that their behaviour was
unacceptable, they are encouraged to apologise politely after which they
join into the class activities again. No grudges are ever held against any
child.
However, should a child
deliberately and destructively break any teaching equipment or repeatedly
display inappropriate behaviour like strong and absolute defiance, the
parents will be notified in writing and the parents will be held liable for
the replacement of the particular equipment that was damaged/broken.
An individual weekly
communication book will be given to each child at the end of each week to be
signed by the parents and brought back to school each Monday. Verbal
communications with the parents will be frequent and ongoing.
HIV AIDS POLICY:
Cuties Corner has a strict HIV/Aids Policy whereby the
children are regularly taught and reminded that only adults may deal with
any injury using surgical gloves at all times and sterile first aid
equipment. Children are furthermore instructed that an adult must
immediately be consulted with regard to any injury, medical condition, no
matter how trivial it may seem.
